👩🚀 Waste management isn’t rocket science.
👷♀️ A lot of the time it’s just common sense, with a sprinkling of knowledge, and a tonne of passion.
📺 If you missed the webinar last week, launching the new UN Environment Programme report Towards Zero Waste – a catalyst for delivering the Sustainable Development Goals, you can watch it now on YouTube (please see link in the comments below).
We had the pleasure of hearing from:
🌟 Takehiro Nakamura, Head of UNEP-IETC and the visionary behind the links between waste management and sustainable development being explored and shared in this report.
🌍 Mayor Talib Bensouda of Kanifing Municipal Council in The Gambia, where all households receive a waste collection service, food waste is diverted from landfill and improvements at the notorious Bakoteh dumpsite now mean everyone can live a healthier life.
🌎 Lorena Gallardo of ReciVeci in Ecuador, an app that links waste collectors to householders and enables them to build relationships and gain people’s trust and respect – while increasing the volume of materials recovered for recycling and reducing dependence on landfill.
🌏 Akshay Gunteti of Green Wormsin India, which has supported more than 2000 women wastepreneurs to help build a circular economy, improve their livelihoods, and recover more than 32,000 tonnes of plastic from 120 villages.
👐 Towards Zero Waste – it’s not rocket science. It’s in our hands!
